Run Report on Last Weeks Run #54 – The “It’s Elementary Run”
Wulin Square is known for its proximity to almost everywhere else on the dominant intersection of Tiyuchang Rd and Yan’An Rd; the perfect location to set a run, easily described, easily found and central to most of the central and western city. Geographically challenged hashers are usually imports, but Cartoon Porn, the map maker, previously known for his lack of knowledge of Beishan Lu has proved his shortcomings by turning out at Wushan Square instead. Well, it starts also with W; it is also connected to Yan’An Rd, so maybe it’s OK. Future hares please note, send Cartoon Porn a map of the start location. Now the hare Skidmarks only put her hand up to set the run on Friday night, so there was obviously limited preparation. However the pack of Sheepshagger, S & M, Slowphuk, Deepthroat, Creature Comforts, Battery Operated, Doggie Style, Handjob, I mean Phone Box, Beastiality and new runner Wendy were not to know this as they straggled in to Wulin square for a 30 minute delayed start. The trail did the obvious thing at the start, crossed the canal on the other side of Huangcheng North Rd, and passed in front of the vinegar bottle building, following the canal to the west. So what made the canals so malodorous this day? A waterfront address in Hangzhou may have prestige, but what a price to pay? Like living with a rubbish tip as your neighbour! Without Cartoon Porn in the van the checking was shared around and the pack kept fairly together. When away from the canalside and not circuiting inside housing estates, the trail was a bit straight and boring until back to the canal and that special scent. The pack was back to the square in about 50 minutes where the circle attracted quite an audience. Karoline had joined Acronymph at Starbucks forgoing the hash on this day for no publishable reason, but they did make the circle, and were quickly down downed for this hash offence. Karolina was then named Cunning Linguist, another Battery Operated creation which English native speakers found quite amusing. Cunning Linguist was aware that there was a inner element to this name, but was unsure exactly what. The crowd of onlookers deepened to the point that some unlawful assembly statute was in danger and thus the constabulary visited, but who, finding no subversive activity, enforced the “no bikes in Wulin Square? law, bit of a problem for Deep Throat, Cartoon Porn and Battery Operated who disappeared with their bikes, re-appearing at the Swimming Pool restaurant, the chosen dinner venue. Alas, this place was too popular so the pack retired to Deep Throat’s pad for beer, pizza and Chinese take-a-way; good on you Deep Throat. Anyway, the mapmaker Cartoon Porn has come good with a map of the run which can be seen along with shots of the pack in his facebook. On on.

Run #53 “The Mismanagement in Action” Run

Run #52 The Children’s Day Run – Rehashed

There’s a lot to be said for husband and wife run setting teams. It allows the natural order of things in the union to be supplanted by something far more important, the trail. Submerged by the responsibility to the hash, normal subjects such as career, home, mothers-in-law, territorial lapses and childbirth take their proper place in the scheme of things. By observation, scribe has noted a seeming majority of failed unions in the midst of hash and subscribes to the theory that it’s joint trail setting at the bottom of it all. After all how could one seriously debate the choice of schools for offspring when there are vastly greater issues at hand, like the venue for next weeks run. But all that mumbo was not on the mind of Bangers and Yeti as they indicated to the pack the direction of the trail as it led out of Hangzhou’s salute to a distant (but failed) civilization, the Forum. Even if the quality of the trail was not going to hold the pack up, there was no doubt that the cunningly obscured blue arrows would do the job. With Cartoon Porn once again pushing from the front, away the pack went, a proper run with some serious looking runners, including even the normally relaxed style of Skidmarks. Along the lakes edge, up and across gardens, by-ways and many cornered bridges for good luck or bad luck, drink more hot water, and false trails to burn. A nice little variation saw Battery Operated calling a meeting in the bush conference room while Pains and S & M shortcutted around the back. Around LeiFeng Pagoda, trail a bit mystifying here, leaving S & M and Skid at the back of the pack on their lonesome and the pack proper vanished. The trails turned the pack around often, yes, it was intentional, and soon crossed the Su Di for another of those endless circuits through Hangzhou’s many answers to Hyde Park. At the end of that pictureskew labyrinth of paths, it was back on Nanshan Rd for a fast run back to the start, all stretching out including Creature Comforts for the run in. The circle saw Bubble Butt named, with Battery Operated taking the lead in the merging of random sights with random thoughts to come up with that name. At least Bubble Butt could see the amount of thought and attention applied to her name, about 5 seconds worth. As proved to date, a hasher either is named appropriately or lives up to the name, so where this leads for Bubble Butt one could but surmise. After a few beers and cast aspersions, the pack minus 7 Up adjourned to the Indian Kitchen. It’s hard to get used to the Indian restaurant concept after Chinese restaurants; scribe needs lessons, especially in the Indian beer mark up policy, cost plus 1000%. Strange, it didn’t make them taste any better. Then Yeti dropped dropped a few over to meet Doggie at the Maya (surprise) after which a late night was enjoyed followed by a morning that was not.
