29 Mar 2014 – Moganshan Trail Run

Hi HZH3 Hashers and Friends,

In case you haven’t heard about this Moganshan Trail Run Series by “Transition Events”, I thought I’d pass it on. See details below.

I know some Shanghai Taiping and Drunken Dragon Hashers are going to do it.

Apparently, the 29 March run will be “the first of 4 trail runs in North Zhejiang”. I don’t think dates or places for the next 3 runs have been released yet. Although, the last should be back at Moganshan, where Transition Events seems to be based.

Cheers,

Sweet FA

Transition Events Trail Series

Stage 1 – Moganshan Trail Run

The first event takes place Saturday 29th March. The points race is 21km, however there are 3 x 7km relays for those that want a challenging shorter run.

Moganshan’s bamboo forests provide hilly trails, tracks, villages and streams to run through, and we aim to keep you off-road for 80% of the route!

Trail Series FAQ

What is the Transition Trail Run Series? We will eventually have races across China that are open to all runners. A series is 3 to 7 races offered in a region by one Event Organiser.

Can I compete in just one trail run, or must I compete in the entire series? You can do just one, or you could do them all (good luck!).  The thing to know is that you score points every time you finish in the top 15 at a race.  Points are added up within each Series, and if at the end of the year you’ve got the most points in your age group you’ll be declared the Series Champion.
Everyone who gets out and races is a winner.

If an event is offering both a 5k and a 21k, do you get points for either distance? No, just the longest distance race of the day gives points.  So if there is a 5km and a 15km then only the 15km would be the points race, and the 5km would be just for fun.  The lone exception is when an event hosts both a full-marathon (42km) and half-marathon (21km) on the same day. In that case, both distances would count for points.

The theory behind this is to get the best runners to enter the longest distance offered at each race, rather than having some of the quality runners “hold back” by entering a shorter distance knowing that they could still score points.

Is there prize money for any of these races? Not yet, but we are always talking to sponsors and welcome any introductions! In general we have locally made trophies, and maybe product from a generous sponsor.

Transition Events is an event-organising team – a band of freelancers based around Moganshan who come up with ways to challenge and entice people to come enjoy the fresh air, either for educational or recreational purposes.

With different skills and life experiences, the team is better than any one person, although of course some prefer to organise, whereas others prefer to just do … some prefer being on a rockface, others on dry land (or on 2 wheels), and some in the water.

We’re always interested in new event concepts, and ultimately want to help grow the outdoors community by creating more ways to enjoy it.
